Terms of Service
Last updated: August 2, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of iraqem.com and its associated content, tools, and licensed data offerings (together, the "Service"), operated by Iraq Energy Monitor ("IEM," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
IEM is an independent data and analysis platform covering Iraq's electricity, oil, gas, and broader energy sector. IEM is not a government body, is not affiliated with any government entity, and is not a news outlet. Free content on the Site (charts, snapshots, Insights articles) is provided for general informational purposes. Structured underlying datasets are made available separately to paying customers under a data license, as described in Section 4. The Service is currently offered in beta; features and data coverage may change without notice.
2. Not Investment, Legal, or Professional Advice
Nothing on the Service constitutes investment, financial, legal, tax, or other professional advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any asset, or to enter into any transaction. Content is provided for general informational and analytical purposes only. You are solely responsible for any decisions made in reliance on information from the Service, and you should seek independent professional advice before making investment, contractual, or operational decisions.
3. Acceptable Use
Using the free, publicly accessible portions of the Site, you may:
- View, browse, and reference the Site's published content for personal or internal business use;
- Share links to individual pages or Insights articles.
You may not, without our prior written consent:
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Site by automated means, other than standard search engine indexing;
- Republish, redistribute, or resell Site content or datasets, in whole or in part;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source data from the Site's visualizations or tools beyond what is presented;
- Use the Service in any way that infringes the rights of, or misrepresents an affiliation with, any third party, including the government entities referenced as data sources;
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service, including attempting to access non-public areas (such as the administrative tools) without authorization;
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
4. Licensed Data Access
Structured datasets referenced on the Data Sources page are available under a separate paid data license. Unless a specific written agreement between you and IEM says otherwise, a data license granted through the Service is:
- Non-exclusive and non-transferable — granted to the named licensee (and, where applicable, its organization) only;
- Limited to internal use — for the licensee's own research, investment analysis, or operational purposes, not for resale, redistribution, or use in a competing data product;
- Subject to the plan, term, and usage limits described at the time of purchase or in your order confirmation.
[PLACEHOLDER — fill in with your actual commercial terms: pricing/billing cycle, renewal and cancellation process, refund policy, and what happens to access at the end of a subscription term.]
5. Accuracy of Information; No Warranty
We take reasonable care to source data from official government publications and reputable institutions and to accurately reflect those sources. However, underlying government and institutional data may itself contain errors, delays, revisions, or gaps, and our processing, structuring, or visualization of that data may introduce additional limitations. The Service and all content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
6. Third-Party Links
The Service links to third-party government and institutional websites (e.g., the Ministry of Oil, SOMO, the Ministry of Electricity, the U.S. EIA) for reference and sourcing purposes. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of any third-party site, and linking to it does not imply endorsement or affiliation.
7. Intellectual Property
The Site's design, text, graphics, visualizations, compilations, and underlying software are owned by IEM or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Except for the limited rights expressly granted in these Terms, no rights are transferred to you. Underlying government data referenced on the Service remains the property of, or in the public domain of, its original source, as applicable.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, IEM and its officers, employees, and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunity, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including damages resulting from investment, contractual, or operational decisions made in reliance on Service content — even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold IEM harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, including a data license, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. You may stop using the free Site at any time; cancellation of a paid data license is governed by the commercial terms referenced in Section 4.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. Governing Law
[PLACEHOLDER — specify the governing law and jurisdiction/venue for disputes, based on where the business is actually registered/operated. This should be confirmed with counsel rather than assumed.]
